When I am dieting I usually make good choices at home but when I’m at work I am tempted to stray away from my healthy eating plan. My office is about 10 feet from the cafeteria and it’s so easy to just go across the hall and grab a not so healthy lunch. In order to keep myself on track there are certain steps I take to avoid the temptations of the cafeteria and their yummy banana pudding cake!
Weight Watchers Tips for Success at Work
Take a few minutes each night to plan ahead and pack your lunch. If I don’t plan ahead, that’s when I usually end up not taking my lunch and depending on the cafeteria for lunch. Whether you spend an hour on the weekend preparing your lunches or just a few minutes each night, planning ahead will help keep you on track.
Some people are okay with eating the same foods for lunch every day. I am not one of those people. If you are one who needs variety, there are many options for healthy grab and go lunches.
If you are a sandwich lover there are so many options besides bread and bologna. Try 100 calorie sandwich thins rather than white bread. I love these Arnold, Flax and Fiber Sandwich Thins for my sandwiches. Try topping your sandwiches with deli meat or single serve Starkist Tuna Creations pouches.
I like to start out with greens, add some veggies, and a protein. I love to use diced chicken, steak strips, or canned beans. I love kidney beans or garbanzo beans on top of my salads!
A couple of weeks ago I found this great Stay Fit Deluxe Salad Kit that I’ve been using to take my salads to work in.
Keep healthy snacks and lunches on hand at work. If you have a refrigerator, you can store packs of veggies or fruit for those moments when the urge to snack hits. There are many 100 calorie snacks that are available that are great to keep on hand too. Don’t be tempted by the vending machine or cafeteria.
Skipping breakfast will set you up for overeating and snacking later in the day. Take time to eat a healthy breakfast!
Divide your lunches and snacks into single serving portions to avoid the temptation to overeat.
Drink lots of water. Not only does it keep you feeling fuller longer but it keeps you hydrated.
Pay attention to what you are eating. Often, when we multitask and eat as we work, we overeat without realizing it.
Workout at Work
You can sneak some cardio in while you are at work. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park your car as far away from the building as possible. If there are multiple restrooms at your office, go to the one farthest from your desk. This will help you get as many steps in as possible each day.
