French Onion Soup (Slow cooker)

Ingredients

  • 4 sweet onions, sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp brown sugar (or Stevia)
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 64 oz vegetable broth (or chicken broth or beef broth)
  • 2 tbsp fresh thyme

Directions

  1. Your crockpot is adjusted to high temperature, and then add the butter, onions, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 hour until onions is getting brown and caramelize, stir the mixture occasionally.
  2. Add flour and stir and then let cook for 5 more minutes.
  3. After adding the thyme and broth, cook again on low for 6 to 8 hours.
  4. This recipe is to serve with bread and cheese. Place a small sliced piece of french bread on top of the soup. Cover with one slice of Swiss cheese and then broil for 3 minutes.

Notes

Add French bread and reduced fat Swiss cheese for a true French Onion soup experience.
