A birthday serenade at the home of Hollywood icon Doris Day is becoming a regular event. She recently celebrated her 92nd birthday and fans once again gathered outside her home to sing her happy birthday and give her their well wishes for years to come.
Although Day says she’s not a big fan of birthdays anymore, her publicist said Day does have one wish. She wishes that every four-legged friend would have a warm bed, plenty to eat, and lots of love.
Day has spent the last several decades mostly withdrawn from the public’s eye, but she has continued to work on the Doris Day Animal Foundation which she started in 1978. In lieu of birthday gifts, Day asks that fans donate to the charity which helps rescue and rehabilitate animals.
For this year’s serenade, Day appears on the balcony of her California home in a white turtleneck and oversized glasses. She spoke on the phone with her fans below. “This is something that is so touching,” she told them. “And I want you all to know that each one of you means so much to me. You really do,” said Day with emotion filling her voice.
