Ingredients
- 4 sweet onions, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 tsp brown sugar (or Stevia)
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 64 oz vegetable broth (or chicken broth or beef broth)
- 2 tbsp fresh thyme
Directions
- Your crockpot is adjusted to high temperature, and then add the butter, onions, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 hour until onions is getting brown and caramelize, stir the mixture occasionally.
- Add flour and stir and then let cook for 5 more minutes.
- After adding the thyme and broth, cook again on low for 6 to 8 hours.
- This recipe is to serve with bread and cheese. Place a small sliced piece of french bread on top of the soup. Cover with one slice of Swiss cheese and then broil for 3 minutes.
Notes
Add French bread and reduced fat Swiss cheese for a true French Onion soup experience.
